Chloe

Fic: This Must Be One of Those Anomalies (1/?)

Title: This Must Be One of Those Anomalies
Fandom: Smallville/Fringe Crossover
Characters: Chloe Sullivan, Special Agent Phillip Broyles
Word Count: 2,956
Rating: PG-13
Summary: Chloe needed a change, craved it. Because this wasn’t her life anymore, or at least not a life she had ever planned for herself.
Spoilers: Slight and vague spoilers 8x16 Turbulance and 8/17 Hex
Warnings: Probably not a fic for the Chimmy enthusiast
Author’s Notes: I wrote this for [info]tobywolf13’s Chloe's Career Change Challenge. Check out the master post to see the other excellent entries. I’m not sure at this point whether I’m really going to write more chapters, as I have absolutely no idea what kind of Fringe Science mystery of the week I would write for the story. However, I really want to write some Chloe/Peter flirting, so I suppose it all just depends on the response I get for it.

It was days like these when Chloe felt she was just going through the motions )

Fic: Welcome to Smallville (prologue)

Title: Welcome to Smallville
Fandom: Smallville
Characters: Original Character (Nicola Lively), and in future chapters, all Season One characters.
Word Count: 2,010
Rating: PG-13
Summary: A new girl moves to Smallville, Kansas and Clark discovers he is not the only person on earth who isn't "normal."
Disclaimer: I do not, have never, and will never own the TV shows Smallville or Roswell, nor the book series Roswell High. I'm just using their likeness for my own entertainment which will acquire me no financial benefits.
Author's Notes: I started writing this fanfic in November of 2001 when I was a junior in high school and originally it began as a very lame Roswell fanfic before transforming into a sort-of crossover with Smallville. I've had writer's block on this story since January of 2005. My friend started reading it when she was bored at her job as a receptionist, so I'm trying to at the very least finish the newest chapter for her. I thought if I went back an re-wrote the awful stuff I produced back then it would inspire me to finish my story. Anyway, I've already posted several chapters of this on fanfiction.net, but I'm going to put up the edited/re-worked chapters here one by one. Some important notes before you read it:

1. Timeline: This takes place during season one. For the most part, each chapter revolves around one episode from the season, starting with episode 1.7 "Craving".
2. I realize now that my OC sometimes, as many OCs do, enters Mary Sue territory. But I promise, overall, I try to make her a fallible character. I mean, look how many quotations marks she uses in her journal.
3. Future chapters will be long. When I saw "long", I'm talking over 40 pages in a word processor long. I'll try to break them up so they are easier to read, but I don't know how that will work.
4. Eventually, a Lex/OC pairing will play heavily into the storyline.

Now, onto the story. )

Why Smallville's episode "Commited" Was Not a 10

Okay, I was on Kryptonsite's forum earlier today and I saw that 49% of the people there gave the episode a 10 out of 10. As someone who gave it a 6, I was flabbergasted, to say the least. I thought this was a good episode, better than many of seasons past, but for me to have given this episode a ten that would have meant all of the following applied (in no real particular order):

1. I enjoyed the Clois interactions. )

Screw You, New Kids on the Block!

So today I get this email from Portland, Oregon's venue Rose Quarter's online emailing list:

New Kids on the Block cancelled
Refunds available at point of purchase

Due to an unavoidable scheduling conflict the New Kids on the Block concert, originally scheduled for Rose Garden Arena on Sunday, November 23, 2008 has been cancelled.

Tickets purchased via credit card at the Rose Quarter Box Office, ComcastTIX.com or by phone will automatically receive a refund. Ticket holders who purchased tickets with cash or at Safeway/TicketWest outlets can receive refunds at the place of purchase.

Unavoidable scheduling conflict? Seriously? That's what their calling giving the shaft to fans who have been waiting months to go to their show? Their "unavoidable scheduling conflict" is actually that the jerkoffs otherwise known as the New Kids on the Block decided that rather than fulfill their previous obligation that has been on the books for over five months for a whole audience that is there specifically for them to perform on the American Music Awards to sing like one song and have a total of maybe 15 minutes of airtime. I understand from a business sense that performing for a national audience on live television is better than performing a live concert in a city that most people wouldn't be able to point to on a map, but is really shitty to the fans who bought tickets in as early as May to cancel on them when something "better" comes along. It could have been avoidable...they could have chosen to not be dicks and stick with their previously made engagement. Or, at the very least, POSTPONED their Portland show for a later date. You know, I was hesitant to buy the tickets in the first place because they were way too expensive for a group I haven't really listened to in over a decade, but my mom wanted to see Natasha Bedingfield, so I thought, what the hell, it might be fun. I should have listened to my gut and not bought the tix, thereby avoiding the built-up excitement and unavoidable let down. It's a good thing I still haven't got around to buying their CD, otherwise I would have been even more pissed.

I'm Addicted to Gossip Girl

So, I know that it took me forever to make new icons, but I'm a perfectionist so it took me a while to get this icons to my liking. Plus some involved removing background people, unwanted objects, and CW logos from the image first, which took frigging forever. Anyway, I have lots of icons from the Season 2 premiere of Gossip Girl. 71 to be exact. I hate a lot of them, but it was taking too long trying to get each one to look exactly the way I liked, so I gave up on a lot of them. Hope they're not too hideous. I decided to be crazy and post them chronologically...meaning in order of when the frame appeared on the screen.

Shazam! Icon Frenzy

After months away, I'm back with a vengeance. Okay, so most of the Smallville ones I made in March, but my goddamn work and college coursework had overwhelmed me so much I had no time to post them on my LJ. Anyway, hope you like the new stuff. This is this first time I've done stock icons (I'm always afraid I'll make them boring), so I hope those look okay. Hopefully this summer I will have time to make much, much more arts.

Oh, and just to note, I'm not really much of a Chlarker anymore, at least nothing beyond their beautiful, albeit sometimes lopsided friendship. However, I was inspired in March to make a bunch of them (or perhaps I was convinced by my former peeps at the Kryptonsite forum to make em, I can't remember).

Pip Uses His Brain

Instantly Bitter

Holy schnikes, it's been a while since I've done anything on my LiveJournal. But I just finished watching the series finale of one of my favorite guilty pleasure shows, and was so peeved off I had to write something.

I'm sure I'm one of the only people who cared about or even watched this show, but I just watched the series finale of Instant Star and I'm kind of angry and really depressed right now. For those of you not in the know, Instant Star is a gem of show that aired for 4 seasons on The N which was about a [Canadian] girl that wins an American Idol-type competition show and has a thing for her producer. First, I was kind of p.o.'d to learn that this 4th season would be its last (especially since they keep renewing Degrassi: 90210..er, I mean, TNG), but I accepted the fact that all good things must eventually come to end. Then I watched the series finale.

That was NOT a series finale. Series finales, when they are made knowing they are going to be series finales, are supposed to have closure for the fans who faithfully stuck by the show's side for however long the show was on. I wouldn't have minded the ending if they had made it before they knew it was the series ender, because it does work as a season finale. But I'm pretty positive they knew that would be the ending of the show itself. So, if they knew that, why would they have the couple that the majority of the viewers have been rooting for since episode one to get together and stay together NOT end up together? Okay, so maybe it's more realistic and empowering for Jude to decide she needs to try doing things without Tommy, however, I, the viewer, am not going to get anymore episodes to see them come back together later on. I won't get resolve. I've been watching for four years for these two people to get past their issues and realize that they are meant for each other, but instead they break up at the very end and I will never know if they find their way back to each other.

Okay, so it may be the hopeless romantic in me that is annoyed by the whole situation, but this show got me invested in this fictional relationship, and I feel like the show didn't respect me enough to at least pretend like Tommy and Jude were going to live happily ever after together forever. Is that too much for a girl to ask? (And don't get me started on the fact that they began the whole Kwest/Sadie/Darius triangle thing without an actual resolution). Overall, if they had cared for the fans, they would have had Tommy and Jude sing the basement song and fly off to London together all happy. It may not have been the most realistic ending, but why does TV have to mirror reality?

Chlark

Fic: It's Me You Want

Title: It's Me You Want
Fadom: Smallville
Characters/Pairings: Chloe, Chlark
Rating: G
Word Count: 124
Summary: Post/AUish-Fever (2x16). Instead of putting her feelings for Clark in a letter, Chloe writes about it in a poem.
Author's Notes: Wrote this a long time ago. Like almost exactly 5 years ago. It's really bad, but since I'm slowly posting all my stuff onto my LJ, I might as well get this one out of the way. I never usually write poetry, so don't expect anything spectacular. You'll notice that I "borrowed" a snippet or two from Chloe's letter and a line from a Gilmore Girl's quote. Doubt I'll post this anywhere else on livejournal, so I'm pretty sure no one outside of fanfiction.net will read this thing. Maybe later I'll make a banner/header for this fic so at least one good thing comes out of this thing.

So, I've been slowly making some brushes over the course of the last month or so, and I finally finished. Even though I posted them at different icon/photoshop communities, thought I'd post it on my own LJ too.

Again, these are the first brushes I've ever made, so they're probably very amateurish:

Fic: When It Was Easier

Title: When it Was Easier
Fandom: Tin Man
Characters: Cain, DG
Prompts: #01 Beginnings for [info]fanfic100 and #24 Easy for [info]100_prompts
Word Count: 509
Rating: PG
Summary: Cain thinks back to when his relationship with DG was at an easier, much less confusing place.
Disclaimer:You must be pretty bloody insane if you think I own Tin Man.
Author's Notes: Okay, so I desperately wanted to write something for Tin Man. This was the first thing that spawned from my brain. This is the first fanfic I've been able to finish in like two years...and those usually have an OC as my crutch, so needless to say, I'm pretty proud of myself for even completing this bad boy. I use repetition as a device in this fic, so I understand if you want to kill me after reading a particular phrase over and over again.

It was easier in the beginning... )

Slusho!

Cloverfield is Freakin' Awesome!

So, I just got back from watching the movie Cloverfield. It was so freaking fantastic. The monster, while not the best CGI work ever, was pretty awesome-looking. You got enough images of the thing to see what it is, but not too much of it where it started to get lame. The acting, for the most part, was pretty strong. I loved the humor that stuck into certain parts to lighten the mood. The guys were hot; I've always loved Mike Vogel, and the guy who played Rob was cute on the show The Black Donnellys but looked very sexy in this movie. Theo Rossi was in it for a little while, which I squeed about because I loved his guest stint on Veronica Mars and had wished he had stay around in a recurring status. Anyway, back to the movie...At times, the whole real video camera recording shots kind of gave you that car sick feeling (especially in the running scenes), it was definitely very effective. Overall, great film, I totally recommend it.

Side note: As I'm typing this I'm watching tonight's episode of Psych and one of the character's name is Cloverfield. Freaky, right?

To Beth Who's Obsessed with Johnny Zacharra/Brandon Barash

Okay, I get it, you love the guy. I don't need you to constantly reply in my journal about it... especially when the comments are directed towards Brandon/Johnny like he'll actually read and reply. Please, if you're just going to comment about how dreamy he is or how much you want to hug/kiss him, don't bother commenting...I'm just going to delete your comment. Go to a Johnny Zacharra/Brandon Walsh appreciation livejournal/website/message board and tell everyone there about your love for the guy.

Because of your non-stop posting, I'm now screening all anonymous postings. It may be a hassle at some point, but at least I won't have to keep deleting irrelevant posts.

Edited to add: Wow, Beth, you are seriously pathetic. You come here nearly everyday to make some stupid comment that I just end up deleting, probably giggling to your sad self thinking you're getting back at me for making this post. Get a fucking life already and stop coming to my journal. The only thing you're accomplishing is wasting your own time showing everyone what a goddamn loser you are.

Reaper Pilot Episode

So, the one good thing that's come out of this writer's strike is now that most of the shows have run out of new episodes, I can tune into other shows' reruns and catch up on what I've been missing. Even though I wasn't watching any other show Tuesdays @ 9 PM, I wasn't fauxVoing Reaper, like I wanted to. I mainly did this to show protest to the CW for canceling Veronica Mars which had this time slot last year. Anyway, now that it's on at 8 PM instead, and the only other show I watch at that time is NCIS, I decided to watch it this time around...and luckily the first episode aired tonight. I already watched the original pilot via my brother and loved it, but I wanted to see how Missy what's-her-face did in the re-casted love interest role. I know I'm way late in the game, but here are a few of my thoughts on the first episode:

1. I heart Bret Harrison. I loved him on Grounded for Life. He was adorable on his guest stint on The O.C.. And I was very sad when they cancelled The Loop. Plus he's from Oregon too, so there's hope for me to get out of this town and make it in Hollywood.

2. Nikki Reed was much better in the role of Andi than Missy. I found Nikki's Andi to be more likable and relatable than Missy's. There was some kind of down-to-earth about Nikki's Andi that drew me to the character and want her to be with Sam. Missy's Andi was kind of "meh" to me. Wish they hadn't gone with the recast.

3. Tyler Labine (Sock) is hilarious. Rick Gonzalez (Ben) was pretty funny too.

4. Ray Wise is an awesome Devil.

5. The only thing that confused me in the plot is why the Devil would take Sam's Mom's soul if Sam didn't do the Devils's bounty hunter work. It was the Dad who was saved from dying, right? Wouldn't it be his soul that would be forfeit? Then again, I suppose the trade is more even to the Devil if someone else dies instead of the originally intended, especially if that someone is the now-living person's spouse.

Anyway, despite the recast, I thought it was a solid episode. Can't wait to see more. Off to finish a fanfic for one of my tables.

I'll add links to the fics as I post them so they're all in one shiny spot.

More Icons

A week ago I finally finished watching the mini-series Tin Man, which had been sitting on my DVR gathering dust, and I fell in love with it. I'm now obsessed with everything Tin Man. Since my fanfic writing muse is still MIA, I made a billion icons instead. You'll notice when looking at the icons that I'm a big DG/Cain shipper. As soon as DG lit up when she saw Cain and yelled, "Cain! You're alive!" then sprinted to him to give him a big hug, I was hooked. I also kind of have a big ole crush on Neal McDonough, so I might have been projecting, but still I see something there. Anyway....here are the icons I made for Tin Man, along with some for the show Dirty Sexy Money, which is also a great show you must all watch. I hated the coloring on a lot of them, especially the Tin Man ones...those screencaps were really hard to try and get good coloring from.
